Team Spotlight: Meet John, our DevOps Engineer

Part of our Team Spotlight series, celebrating members of the For-Sight team recognised in our June 2026 team awards.

Some of the most important work at a tech company is the work you never actually see. The platform that's simply always there: quick, dependable, and quietly doing its job whether it's first thing on a Monday or the middle of a busy check-in rush. John is one of the people who makes that happen.

As our DevOps Engineer, John is the steady hand behind the scenes, helping our developers ship their work faster and more reliably, keeping our systems healthy, and making sure the guest data hotels trust us with stays secure. It's the kind of role that's invisible when it's done well. In John's case, it very much is.

His route here is one we love at For-Sight: he joined on the support desk, grew into I.T., and then into DevOps, chasing new challenges at every step. He was recognised by the team in our June 2026 awards as a Cultural Champion, fitting for someone whose favourite thing about For-Sight is the friendly, everyone-pitches-in culture he helps sustain. John is consistently recognised for his collaborative spirit and willingness to support others across teams. Approachable, dependable, and always positive, he goes above and beyond to help colleagues succeed while also bringing energy and fun to everything he does.  

Fun Fact: Awarded Team Members were gifted a custom bobblehead of themselves. John's was created based on his chosen photo dressed as video game character, Max Payne, his first and only time cosplaying!

We grabbed a bit of his time to talk shop, trends, and the surprisingly green thumb he's developed lately.

John's experience at For-Sight

💙 What do you enjoy about working at For-Sight?

"The friendly culture. Everyone gets on well with each other, and everyone is ready to help out where they can. Also, I get to work in a professional manner with my hobby! 2 for 1!"

🏆 Do you have a favourite memory or a milestone you're particularly proud of: a project or technical challenge that stands out?

"Most recently, I built a dashboard with the help of AI that supercharged our Tech Support team's ability to monitor and respond to issues. It's something we've been trying to do properly for a while. I'm glad to get it over the line for my coworkers."

🔭 What are you looking forward to in the next six months at For-Sight?

"We have a super-duper-secret-thingy coming soon that's all I can say here!"

Let's talk about DevOps...

🧭 Can you tell us a bit about your career journey so far and what led you to DevOps at For-Sight?

"I started my tech career at For-Sight as a support tech. Then moving my way into I.T. and into DevOps. I was always looking into new challenges, and with DevOps there are always new challenges!"

🛠️ For readers who aren't technical: what does a DevOps engineer do, and what does that look like at a hospitality tech company?

"I always tell people I support our devs in getting their code up and running and into the hands of customers, so they can concentrate on making magic. The goal is always release faster, better and more reliably."

🔒 A lot of your work is invisible when it's done well. What goes on behind the scenes to keep the platform reliable and hotel guest data secure?

"Lots and lots of reviewing of systems, work processes, and documentation. As well as keeping up with industry standards with new and interesting developments to boot."

🔮 Are there any trends in tech or infrastructure that you think will shape hospitality platforms over the next few years?

"A little cliché to say, but it is definitely AI. It's still in its relative infancy, but it has already been transformative. The next few years will likely be even more so."

☕ What does your perfect workday look like?

"In the zone, making our processes more efficient, learning something new. And helping my coworkers solve problems."

Just for fun

🌱 What's your favourite way to spend time when you're not working?

"Right now, it's gardening. My thumb is officially green, and I've never owned so many plants!"

🏛️ What does your perfect holiday look like?

"Visiting old cities, seeing all the lovely architecture and learning about history."

🎤 What's one interesting fact about you that not many people know?

"I once directed Jack Whitehall to the bathroom backstage at one of his gigs. Is that interesting? Maybe not."
